Rock video a platform for Māori visual artists

Musician Riqi Harawira is using the promotion of his new album as a chance to boost Māori visual artists.
The Mauri album tour is set to wind up at the end of the month with a gig at the Anthology club on Auckland's Karangahape Rd, where the veteran musician will launch a video for his song Self Determination.
He says the video features the work of 14 Māori artists, including Gordon Toi and Darryl Thomson or DLT.
"I've created a group called Native Narrative Artist Symposium which is a platform for other Māori artists to express themselves with my music being the vehicle. I thought instead of jumping around in a rock video, the cliche rock thing, I would actually have art from my peers, celebrate them as well," Riqi Harawira says.
Proceeds from the Anthology gig on March 30 will go to Vic Tamati's Safe Men, Safe Woman, Safe Family anti-violence initiative.
