School climate strike a fight for the future

Climate Change Minister James Shaw says National MP Nuk Korako should ease up rather than criticising school children proposing to go on strike over the issue.
The March 15 strike is part of an international movement by rangatahi concerned at the slow response of governments to the issue.
Mr Shaw says his zero carbon bill now working its way through parliament sets a 2050 target for emissions reduction targets to be reached, by which time he will be 77 if still alive and Mr Korako 96.
"These kids are going to grow up in a world that will be fund diff as a result of the effects of climate change to they are really fighting for their futures. No one bats an eyelid if someone has to take a day off school because they are crook, but the idea we would bat an eyelid because they take a day off to fight for the entire rest of their lives, I frankly don’t have a problem with that," he says.
