Tamihere able to show his teeth

Auckland councillor Christine Fletcher says John Tamihere is a formidable performer who can get the super city the resources it needs from central government.
Ms Fletcher, a former Auckland City mayor and MP, is standing on a ticket to be Mr Tamihere’s deputy if he wins the mayoralty.
She says his work with urban Māori trust Te Whānau o Waipareira has demonstrated his commitment to social good, and he can get things done.
"For too long there’s been a lot of naval-gazing in Auckland’s relationship with Wellington and central government and I don’t just mean with the current Labour government, with the National Māori Party coalition Government they were too late coming to grips with the transport issues and the infrastructure that need to accompany growth we ended up with a poor deal, so with John I know I’m working with a man with very forthright views who will show his teeth when he needs to," Ms Fletcher says.
She says what she brings is experience and governance skills that can bring together a deeply dysfunctional and divided council.
