Rush on for Matatini tickets
Tickets for Te Matatini are flying out the door, with 5600 tickets gone already.
Tickets to Te Matatini corporate lounges also sold out in less than a minute after being released.
The biennial national kapa haka competition is being held at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium from February 21.
Wellington mayor Justin Lester says ticket sales are ahead of the last championships in Hawke’s Bay, and large accommodation sites are booked out throughout the region.
He says it’s a once in a generation experience for Wellingtonians – it’s been 40 years since the competition was held in the capital city, and 21 years since it was in the wider Wellington region.
About 60,000 people are expected over the four day days.
Te Matatini chief executive Carl Ross is encouraging people to buy from the official Tiketek site and avoid the Viagogo scalping site, where some people have paid more than double the normal ticket price.
