National prayer for friends answered

New Zealand First MP Shane Jones sees the emergence of two smaller parties as evidence of National's desperate effort to find the right sort of friends.
The Conservative Party hopes to distance itself from the damage caused by former leader Colin Craig's personal life by rebranding as the New Conservatives and bringing on board Hobson's Pledge co-spokesperson Casey Costello.
And former Green Party leadership contender and one-time National candidate hopeful Vernon Tava wants to form a new centrist green political party which could potentially partner with National in a future government coalition.
Mr Jones says the National Party is keen to stimulate the growth of minority parties.
"The Conservatives historically have not managed to kick a goal, they've ended up being branded as god botherers which I think is inevitable once you bring too much morality into politics and take it out of the household or indeed the bedroom. We can expect to see National, who have no friends, destabilising the political environment by talking up and circuitously supporting the creation of potential coalition partners," he says.
