New professor brings art to science


Massey University has promoted Huhana Smith, the head of its Whiti o Rēhua School of Art, to a full professorship.
Professor Smith, from Ngāti Tūkorehe, Raukawa ki te Tonga, is a visual artist, curator and principal research investigator.
She leads collaborative, interdisciplinary, kaupapa Māori and action research projects on subjects such as freshwater decline and climate change concerns.
She has used matauranga Māori methods to supplement visual systems and scientific data, finding ways the make complex issues more accessible for local communities.
