Under floor heating may make a marae stay comfortable, but it can put the house in a bit of a twist.
Work is going on a Ngā Kete Wānanga Marae at the Manukau Institute of Technology to repair a warped poutokomanawa.
South Auckland kaumātua Rangi McLean, who took part on a ceremony to prepare for the work, says warm air near the ceiling had dried out the wood.
The work is being carried out by Fred Harrison, who worked on the building 20 years ago under the direction of his father the late Pakariki Harrison
