Binney fellowships means history search continues


The first fellowship from a trust set up to honour the late historian Dame Judith Binney has gone to University of Waikato senior lecturer in history Nepia Mahuika of Ngāti Porou.
The fellowship will support his work on a book about the history of mākutu or sorcery in Aotearoa.
Judith Binney Writing Awards have gone to freelance writer Ryan Bodman, who is working on a book about the social and cultural history of rugby league; journalist and commentator Morgan Godfery, who is exploring the history of dissent in New Zealand; and independent historian Melissa Matutina Williams, is engaged in a collective project on the history of wāhine Māori.
