Research to bring culture into classroom
A project to use a Te Tiriti-based approach to socio-emotional wellbeing in the classroom has received funding from the Council for Educational Research’s Teaching and Learning Research Initiative.
Professor Letitia Fickel from the University of Canterbury will work with Hornby High School,Hornby Primary School and Taumutu Runanga on the two year project, which is guided by kaupapa Māori research principles, involving teachers, whānau, hapū, and iwi.
It aims to support teachers to enhance and sustain student wellbeing in the classroom, through what’s known as socio-emotional learning pedagogy.
These will enhance support for the identities, languages and cultures of their students.
