National’s Māori spokesperson Nuk Korako believes increased support from Māori is a factor in his party’s strong showing in the latest Colmar Brunton poll.

The poll put National at 46 percent, up three percentage points, with Labour down two to 43 percent.

Mr Korako says the controversy over residence being granted and then taken away from imprisoned Czeck drug smuggler Karel Sroubek had some influence.

So too did petrol taxes and higher rents

"Māori actually are feeling the fact is that what they were promised by Labour, what they were promised by New Zealand First, the coalition, is not actually happening. I reckon this is really focused on the way people are feeling," Mr Korako says.

He says Simon Bridges' poor showing, with only 7 percent wanting him as prime minister, can be discounted because National’s high party vote is reflective of his leadership.
