Mahuta makes world wāhine top 100
The Prime Minister says the inclusion of Hauraki Waikato MP Nanaia Mahuta on the BCC 100 Women 2018 list of inspiring and influential women around the world is well deserved recognitions.
The BBC noted Ms Mahuta was the first female parliamentarian to wear a Māori face tattoo.
Jacinda Ardern, who did not make the list, says her Minister for Māori Development and Local Government has served as a minister before as well as having on the ground experience in treaty settlement negotiations.
"She just brings a real mana to her job. When Nanaia speaks around the cabinet table I really listen. She is carrying some important roles for us now. The work she is doing in local government, I can't overstate how important the connection between central and local government is and she is doing some incredible work around water at the moment and doing it in such a way we are really bringing people with us," she says.
