Appointment shows Labour serious on housing promise
Acting Prime Minister Kelvin Davis says the appointment of Nanaia Mahuta as an Associate Minister for Housing shows the government is serious about addressing Māori housing need.
The role, which was a Labour Party election policy, was announced last week, with Ms Mahuta to lead a Māori division within the new Ministry for Housing and Urban Development.
"It's not just about owning homes. It's about being able to afford to rent. It's about homelessness. There's so many aspects of the housing situation and Māori are impacted the most by them, so it's the Government, Phil Twyford and Nanaia Mahuta getting on with looking at ways we can help our people further," Mr Davis says.
