Ngāpuhi Rūnanga on best behaviour
The Ngāpuhi Rūnanga wants to incorporate a code of conduct into its trust deed to allow it to better manage conflicts with trustees.
Chair Raniera Tau says where issues have arisen in recent times, the board has found it did not have the tools to correct them.
Beneficiaries will be asked to vote on the changes at the rūnanga’s annual meeting in Whangārei tomorrow.
The rūnanga was split over Mr Tau’s conviction for offences relating to the killing of kererū in Southland, and in the fall out the acting chair and deputy were ousted.
Mr Tau says the hui is a chance to report on positive progress of the past year.
The Rūnanga group made a surplus of $1.95 million, with assets increasing just under 5 percent to $57.9 million.
The bulk of assets are fisheries settlement quota and Aotearoa Fisheries income shares.
Some $40,000 was paid out to support marae and Māori trust development, and 70 tertiary education scholarships handed out totaling $86,000.
The rūnanga also has large health and social service operations.
