Smoothie drops add to PGF flavour
A south Taranaki Māori food business is to get a boost from the Government’s provincial growth fund.
Kaitahi is to get $98,000 towards a food and innovation factory in Waverley.
The firm has created a stir with its smoothie drops which include traditional Māori ingredients such as kūmara, pūhā and kawakawa,
Another $95,000 will go towards establishing an education, training and employment programme at the former site of Turakina Maori Girls’ College.
Regional Economic Development Minister Shane Jones says $40 million of the $48 million package for Manawatū-Whanganui will go to KiwiRail’s project to establish a regional freight hub near Palmerston North.
It also includes $2.8 million to expand the National Driver Training Centre at Manfeild, near Feilding, to help meet demand for skilled drivers and machinery operators nationally.
Mr Jones says years of neglect in the regions emphasises the importance of investments, which allow regions to upscale their planning and develop projects to drive sustainable economic development.
