Farmers shun Tuuta for Fonterra board

Former Māori Trustee Jamie Tuuta has failed to win election to the board of Fonterra, despite being an official nomination.
In what is being seen as a rebuke to the board, former director Leonie Guiney was elected by Fonterra shareholders despite being embroiled in a legal battle with the dairy giant after speaking out against its loss-making investment policy.
The only one of the three board nominees to gain more than 50 percent support was Zespri chair Peter McBride, which means there is one board seat unfilled ahead of tomorrow’s annual meeting in Lichfield.
Before joining Te Tumu Paeroa Mr Tuuta chaired Paraninihi ki Waitōtara Incorporation, which has large dairy interests, and in his Māori Trustee role he also had oversight of many dairy units.
