The Overseas Investment Office says China’s Guangxi Fenglin Wood Industry Group can lease Māori land at Kawerau to build a $100 million-plus particle board factory.
Fenglin will be an anchor tenant in a new industrial park owned by Putauaki Trust.
The factory is expected to create more than 100 full time jobs.
The other tenant signed up so far is Kawerau Dairy Group, a consortium of Bay of Plenty Māori trusts and a Japanese partner who are building a milk processing factory.
