Te Taitokerau MP Kelvin Davis says it’s time for Ngāpuhi to move forward and negotiate its treaty settlement.

Leaders of Tūhoronuku and Te Kotahitanga have come up with a proposal to negotiate the claims under an evolved mandate, which will be put to a vote from November 9.

Critics say the process is being rushed and hapū should have the summer to consider the Tūhono proposal.

But Mr Davis says Ngāpuhi has been bickering for 10 years about how to proceed.

"Ngapuhi need to speak, get out there and vote, whichever way they vote, get out and have a say, and let's not just have a couple of percent of Ngāpuhi voting, let's have everybody, all 120,000 of us, get out there and give whatever the decision is to be a real mandate," he says.

The proposal is at govt.nz/ngapuhi
