No confidence call, ups Paoa rhetoric
No confidence call ups Paoa rhetoric
Splits within Auckland Hauraki Ngati Paoa have intensified with members saying they have removed the mandate of their trust board to negotiate claims.
However, the motion of no confidence was moved not at a trust board hui but one called by a negotiator with the support of the Ngati Paoa Iwi Trust, which is the post settlement governance entity.
Morehu Wilson is now the sole negotiator after Hau Rawiri stepped aside three months ago, and the iwi trust has blocked appointment of a replacement.
Mr Wilson says members are concerned at a lack of accountability back to the iwi.
The trust board has accused the iwi trust of trying to take over the negotiation process, rather than managing the assets as they are handed over.
Meanwhile, if members fired up by the hui a tau want to know how well the iwi trust is managing those assets, they will have to wait until next month and travel to Waiti Marae in Tahuna for a special general meeting where the 2017 accounts will be tabled.
