Tikanga to fore as framework gets real

The Health Ministry is refreshing its mental health and addiction framework to include an increased emphasis on tikanga Māori and a greater focus on relationships with whānau, parents and tamariki.
The Let’s get real framework was first developed in 2008 to outline the values, attitudes, knowledge and skills needed to deliver effective services.
Health Minister David Clark says the update has been developed to be relevant not just for the specialist workforce but for anyone working in health.
He says there is strong evidence people with mental health and addiction have poorer health outcomes compared to the general population.
Let’s get real outlines six values, five attitudes and seven real skills for those working with people with mental health and addiction needs should know and understand.
