Waikato-Tainui extends Hamilton hotel
Waikato-Tainui today blessed the start of construction of a 40-room extension to its Novotel Tainui Hamilton, which will increase capacity to 217 rooms.
Te Arataura chair Rukumoana Schaafhausen says the $13 million investment demonstrates the commitment of the iwi to a strong central city for Hamilton.
The exterior will feature a distinctive design by Waikato-Tainui head carver Renata Te Wiata based on the migration of tuna and the importance they hold to the iwi as a consistent food source.
It was the last project he worked on with his father, master carver Inia Te Wiata, who died earlier this year.
Novotel Tainui Hamilton, operated by AccorHotels, is 4.5 star rated and has a strong sustainability focus.
