Manu measure for high flying partners

East Coast iwi Ngāti Porou is flying high after signing a memorandum of understanding with Air New Zealand.
Iwi spokesperson Whaimutu Dewes says the relationship started with a discussion about sustainability and the purchase of carbon credits from Ngāti Porou forest owners, and expanded into other areas of economic and social development.
He says the key is it’s a long term investment.
"So we are looking at Air New Zealand paying as well as getting other resources which will be used by our landowners to grow the carbon sequestration but also to enhance the waterway that we are using as our success picture when we get our bird song back," Mr Dewes says.
Other benefits could include support for tourism businesses, providing high quality produce such as fish for the airline, and sharing talent.
