Rotorua adopts Housing First kaupapa

Housing First is being proposed as the solution for homelessness in Rotorua.
The programme, which aims to put people in homes and then address the issues that led to their homelessness, was launched in the city yesterday by Māori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta to mark World Homeless Day.
She says it’s a proven, internationally recognised programme.
It will be delivered by a partnership of LinkPeople and Lifewise, who are providing it in other centres, and Taumata o Ngāti Whakaue Trust.
A homeless count in the city earlier in the year found 48 people sleeping rough.
