Kahurangi to show moves on Princess Line
Cruise ship passengers are to get a taste of kapa haka from Hawke’s Bay cultural group Kahurangi.
Spokesperson Narrelle Huata says the group is signed up to perform on the Majestic Princess on a 13-day cruise from Sydney to Dunedin.
She says they have performed on cruise ships in the past on a casual basis, but this is the first formal contract and it’s likely to lead to a range of other work.
"So this is a huge milestone for Kahurangi to have a direct relationship with the cruise lines themselves," she says.
Kahurangi is a Māori dance company founded in 1985 by the late Tama Huata as an extension of the Takitimu Performing Arts School, and its troupes have performed extensively overseas.
