New ground rules for housing NZ

New ground rules for housing NZ
Housing New Zealand’s new social objectives will be enshrined in legislation.
Housing Minister Phil Twyford says they include providing decent housing, being a fair and compassionate landlord and helping sustain tenancies.
The organisation will also no longer be required to return a surplus to the Government.
That should give it more financial flexibility so it can build more state houses and invest in more support for tenants.
Mr Twyford says changes made by the Labour-led Government means it is already offering pastoral care to help tenants stay in their homes, allowing tenants to have pets, and treating drug addiction as a health issue.
