Māori Carbon Foundation chair Sir Mark Solomon says it’s essential to have a Māori perspective in debates about how Aotearoa responds to climate change.

The foundation has established the independent Office of the Māori Climate Commissioner, to be headed by former MP Donna Awatere Huata.

Sir Mark says while the Government intends to sets up its own climate change commission, the voice that comes from Maori is different to the mainstream.

"We’ve have a different way of looking at the natural environment and this is just a way of having the view and voice of Māori put into the arena," he says.
