Moni app retooled for kura
Software developer Banqer has released a te reo Māori version of its financial literacy app.
Chief executive Kendall Flutey says after getting requests from kura kaupapa, the firm worked with them to ensure it was appropriately contextualised for te ao Maori.
She says financial literacy conversations aren’t often had in te reo Māori, and many financial wellbeing studies demonstrate that Māori feel less financially capable than other New Zealand populations
Banqer transforms classrooms into a virtual economy.
Teachers set up a currency and facilitate real-life situations over the course of the school year to enable students to learn about growing money, debt, interest, tax, KiwiSaver and insurance.
Kiwibank has re-committed to funding the tool which means 3300 classrooms can access the platform for free in 2019, up from 2,100 classrooms that were funded this year.
