Rāhui on killer climb

Coromandel iwi Ngāti Huarere has placed a rahui over its maunga Motutere or Castle Rock in the centre of the peninsula.
Two people have died in recent months on the 525 metre formation, which is popular for rock climbing.
Spokesperson Wanda Brljevich says the closure is effective immediately.
She says as legal owners the iwi wants time to discuss how it manages the maunga in future.
Any unauthorised access will be taken as trespassing and Ngāti Huarere does not accept responsibility for anyone accessing the site.
