Comer to head veterans’ panel

Former Te Puni Kōkiri chief executive Leith Comer has been appointed to chair the Veteran’s Advisory Board, with former MP Chester Borrows his deputy.
Mr Comer served in the New Zealand Army for 21 years, while Mr Borrows was a police officer before entering parliament.
Defence Minister Ron Mark is looking to improve the Veteran’s Support Act, and he has asked the board to focus on how veterans are classified.
That will involve not just a consideration of military matters but also consideration of the broader social sector in New Zealand, including what entities such as the public health services and the ACC have to offer military personnel and former service persons.
The other board members are; RSA President BJ Clark, Fiona Cassidy, Baden Ewart, Denise Hutchins, Group Captain Leanne Woon and Warrant Officer of the Defence Force Mark Mortiboy.
