Munro to put Māori face on regional council
Hawke’s Bay Regional hopes the appointment of a Māori partnerships manager will help staff and councillors engage more effectively with tangata whenua.
He's former Wellington district police commander Pieri Munro, who is currently national Māori advisor for Workplace New Zealand.
In that role he supported the establishment of Māori Safety Champions and was involved in the development of a marae-based forestry health and safety intervention pilot scheme.
He has held senior advisory roles in the Ministry of Fisheries, New Zealand Petroleum & Minerals and the NZ Police College.
Council chief executive James Palmer says the new position is important for the council and it's fantastic to be able to attract someone of Pieri Munro’s experience and mana.
