Waikato restoration projects more ambitious

Waikato restoration projects more ambitious
The Waikato River Authority says the projects it is being asked to fund are becoming larger and more ambitious.
The authority has received 45 project applications in its latest round, with two costing more than $1 million and two more over $500,000.
In total the projects are valued at more than $17 million, but less than half of that is being sought from the authority.
Chief executive Bob Penter says it’s good co-funding is catching on.
He says groups and organisations are working together more and aligning their proposals with the authority’s restoration strategy.
There will be an increased focus on bigger projects that incorporate iwi in the project delivery.
The proposals are being technically evaluated, with the successful applicants to be announced in November.
