High expectations of Kupe scholars

High expectations of Kupe scholars
There are high hopes for the 30 Māori and Pasifika student teachers who have received this year’s Kupe Scholarships.
Associate Education Minister Kelvin Davis says the scholarships, worth over $25,000 each, are to attract Māori and Pasifika high achievers to the teaching profession.
He says one of the biggest levers to raise Māori and Pacific achievement is to strengthen teaching, which means having a pipeline of competent Māori and Pacific teachers making the most of professional learning and development.
The students named have demonstrated high academic achievement, leadership, and close links with their communities.
