Free speech for fogeys and fascists
Free speech for fogeys and fascists
Broadcaster turned MP Willie Jackson says he’s like to see supporters of free speech for Canadian right wingers and Hobson’s Pledge founder Don Brash stand up for Māori free speech.
Dr Brash, a former National Party leader, was blocked from speaking at Massey University and shouted down at an Auckland University debate after making a free speech issue of Auckland Council’s refusal to rent a venue to Canadian provocateurs Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux.
"Where were all the editors of the newspapers when people like Tame Iti and Hone Harawira and my uncle Sid Jackson got shut down? Where were they when Tariana Turia was talking about the holocaust? No one worries about our freedom of speech. They are all so worried when the old fogey Brash and this nonsense about 'we'll fight for your right to speak Brash.' Well I won’t," Mr Jackson says.
