Tikanga fears delay treaty signing

Te Aroha-based iwi Ngāti Rāhiri Tumtumu says it doesn’t want to sign the Pare Hauraki Collective Deed of Settlement until tensions with Tauranga Moana about overlapping claims are resolved.
Just five of the 12 Hauraki iwi signed the deed at parliament last week.
The others each have specific reasons not to sign at this time, but some are expected to endorse the deal in the coming weeks.
Negotiator Jill Taylor says Ngāti Rāhiri Tumutumu acknowledges its whakapapa to Ngāti Ranginui and will not sign until after a tikanga process has been completed.
