Māori outreach in teacher pay claims
Secondary teachers’s union the PPTA wants initiatives to improve connections with Māori and Pasifika communities included in their new collective agreement.
Negotiations on the agreement start today.
President Jack Boyle says the union wants to turn around secondary teacher shortages.
Key claims include a 15 percent pay increase, more time to create enriching learning environments for students, and community liaison positions so teachers.
He says the education system is suffering after a decade of under-funding and neglect, and teachers are struggling with over-assessment, red tape and box-ticking.
