Whānau Ora workers upskilled
Forty five Whānau Ora kaimahi graduated last Friday with a Diploma of Whanau Ora.
It’s the fourth and largest cohort to graduate with the NZQA approved level 5 qualification.
The two-year course, which was designed by Te Whānau o Waipareira, aims to give them a grounding in mātauranga Māori and the skills to work across health, education and social services.
Waipareira chief executive John Tamihere says it’s important kaimahi who work in the Whānau Ora be recognised, and the tohu gives them and their work mana.
The students are working for Whānau Ora providers across the North island.
The diploma can be used as a prerequisite towards higher qualifications, a diploma in kaupapa Māori public health, a diploma in addiction studies and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work Biculturalism in Practice.
