Sea and skies in new Auckland laneway

The original shoreline of the Waitematā Harbour at 1841 has been marked out on a new laneway in the Wynyard Quarter.
The design of Tīramarama Way, running east-by-west link between Halsey and Daldy streets, was a collaboration between landscape architect Megan Wraight and artist Lisa Reihana.
A light display suspended above the laneway maps stars and constellations specific to Maori astronomy including Te Punga, the Southern Cross) and Matariki.
Katelyn Orton from Auckland Council property arm Panuku Development says sustainable design features include circular burrow planters that act as small rain gardens to collect and clean rainwater, and a garden laid beneath the ground allows the Nikau grove and other greenery to flourish.
