Funding plug pulled at Hato Pētera

Hato Pētera College is set to lose the integration agreement which allows it to get state funding for teachers.
The Māori Catholic school on Auckland’s North Shore is down to one pupil after its boarding hostels were closed down, with the Auckland Catholic diocese unwilling to spend the money needed to make them habitable again.
Education Minister Chris Hipkins says he has considered the submissions received to date from the consultation which started in April, and he has given the college’s commissioner 28 days to provide any further information on his proposals to cancel the integration agreement.
He says despite the extensive work of the commissioner, previous boards of trustees, teaching staff and the community, concerns about the College’s finances, human resourcing, curriculum and its low student numbers remain.
