More Maori opt for general roll

MONA PAULINE MANGAKAHIA INTERVIEW
At the halfway point of the Maori Electoral Option more than 16,000 people have either changed roll types or enrolled for the first time.
So far there has been a net gain on the general roll of 3,352 and a net decrease of 1,426 on the Maori roll.
That’s not enough to change the number of Maori seats up or down.
Electoral Commission national enrolment manager Mandy Bohte says teams will be at Matariki events around the country over the next few weeks talking to people about the option, which closes on August 2.
If Maori voters want to switch between the general and Maori rolls they can return the form sent to them in the mail, download a form from maorioption.org.nz, get one from a postshop or request one from the commission by phoning 0800 36 76 56.
