Bill taken to Parihaka for consideration

The people of Parihaka are today giving the Maori affairs select committee their views on the bill formalising the apology to be given for the crown invasion of almost a century ago.
Green MP Marama Davidson says it's a privilege to be in the historic Taranaki settlement to hear how the people think reconciliation can work.
The package includes $9 million to help the community build up its infrastructure, which she says is never enough.
"Especially when you consider the crown invasion, the military crown might that invaded, terrorised, destroyed the Parihaka settlement, the land loss, the prisoners taken away who never returned, some were never ever heard of, the rapes and sexual violence and the generational trauma that has resulted," Ms Davidson says.
