A new book out of the University of Otago aims to give students and general readers and entry into the Maori world with a distinctly southern perspective.
Co-editor Poia Rewi says the book was called Te Koparapara, because like the clear morning song of the bellbird it allows the Maori world to speak for itself.
In 21 illustrated chapters leading scholars introduce Maori culture, history, and society.
He says it’s an update of a volume put out by the university more than a decade ago.
