Anglicans to bless same sex relationships
The Anglican Church has agreed to disagree over gay marriage.
It’s an issue that has challenged the church and its three tikanga – Maori, Polynesian and Pakeha – for the best part of half a century.
At this week’s general synod in New Plymouth, church leaders adopted a compromise that will allow bishops to authorise priests in their areas to bless same sex relationships.
Anglican churches in Polynesia will all opt out, but they did not veto the motion.
