Maori roll less appealing

The Electoral Commission says so far 7,093 have gone from the Maori electoral roll to the general roll and just 4,610 have switched from the general to the Maori roll.
At the same stage of the last option in 2013 it was about even with about 8000 voters switching either way, and at the previous three options there had been a more than two to one shift to the Maori roll.
There were 215 new enrolments of first time voters onto the general roll and 431 onto the Maori roll.
That means the Maori roll has now decreased by 2052 voters.
If 10,800 voters move from the Maori to the general roll the number of Maori seats will drop to six.
