Old and new for Oceania exhibition

More than 200 items from Aotearoa and the Pacific will go on show in London in September to mark 250 years since the start of Captain Cook’s first voyage to the South Pacific.
Foreign Affairs Minister Winston Peters says the Oceania exhibition is a partnership between New Zealand and Pacific Island countries with the Royal Academy of Arts.
He says as the United Kingdom seeks to establish its global role outside the European Union in the years ahead, Oceania an excellent means of focusing UK and international attention on the region.
Themes of the exhibition including journeying, place-making and encounters relate to contemporary issues such as climate change, regional security challenges, and sustainable development.
As well as historical taonga, the exhibition will also present contemporary works including Lisa Reihana's panoramic video In Pursuit of Venus [infected].
