Poverty Bay name change coming

The New Zealand Geographic Board wants to know if people will be happy if Poverty Bay is given a dual Maori name.
Gisborne District Counciul has proposed the area also be known officially as Turanganui-a-Kiwa..
Secretary Wendy Shaw says the board has decided the proposal should move ahead.
Turanganui-a-Kiwa is typically referred to as the great standing place of Kiwa.
Poverty Bay was given by Captain Cook when he first arrived in New Zealand in 1769 and was unable to re-supply his ship there.
The three month consultation will start in late May.
