Whanau Ora Minister Peeni Henare says an independent review of Whanau Ora will look not just at whether it is working and how it can be improved but at how a whanau-centred approach can be applied across government, particularly in the social sector.

The review panel will be chaired by accountant Caren Rangi, an experienced public sector governance practitioner who is also a board member for NZ On Air and the Charities Registration Board, and a trustee of the Eastern and Central Community Trust, and Pacific Homecare Services.

The other members are Tania Hodges, the former co-chair for the Waikato Whanau Ora Regional Leadership Group, lawyer Te Rau Kupenga, a former senion executive in the Environment and Education ministries, Te Runanga o Otakou chair Donna Matahaere-Atariki, Kim Ngarimu who was deputy secretary policy at Te Puni kokiri when Whanau Ora was being developed, and Rodney local board chair Brenda Steele.

Mr Henare says the review will assess the ability of the Whanau Ora commissioning model to make sustainable changes in the wellbeing and development potential of whanau.

The review panel will report on its findings in November.
