Tutukaka catches TEDx tide
Tapuwae – footprints in the sand is the theme of tomorrow’s TEDx Tutukaka, a celebration of ideas in the rapid-fire talk format that has taken the internet by storm.
Event licensee Mary Britton says 11 speakers were selected for Northland’s first TED event at the Tutukaka Marina, including Mind Lab founder Francis Valentine, orca expert Ingrid Visser, criminal defence lawyer youth advocate Kingi Snelgar, former Maori Language Commission chief executive and community builder Glenis Philip-Barbara, and living-roof designers Zoe Avery and Renee Davies.
"We chose tapuwae because of how it speaks to looking back to the past and looking forward to the future, the impressions we all leave, both the physical dents in the sand but also all the other impressions we leave people with even though you can’t see the footprints any more, we still carry everything we know, everything we have learnt, and everything that has happened with us as we move forward into the future," she says.
Mary Britton says organisers hope TEDx Tutukaka can become a regular event to reinforce the sense of community that already exists along the Tutukaka Coast.
