Ngapuhi hikoi on future vision

Ngapuhi will today spell out its vision of the future to parliamentarians and public servants.
A large group of kuia and kaumatua from the Northland iwi are in Wellington to see the He Tohu exhibition at the National Library, which includes the 1835 Declaration of Independence, He Whakaputanga o te Rangatiratanga o Niu Tireni, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
Te Runanga a Iwi o Ngapuhi is taking advantage of that to hold an evening event in parliament’s banquet hall titled Ngapuhi: Preparing for our future.
That future will include settling the tribe’s historic claims, with the runanga-backed mandated body Tuhoronuku keen to resume negotiations, with or without its Te Kotahitanga opponents.
Today’s events can be seen as part of a wider attempt to win support from the new Government.
