Korako moves up in Bridges’ National bench
National's Maori development spokesperson sees more room for Maori in the party as a result of new leader Simon Bridges reshuffle.
Nuk Korako moved up to number 37 in the 54-member caucus.
National is working on boosting its Maori capacity, starting with setting up kahurangi blue groups in Canterbury Westland and lower North Island.
"These groups are Maori aligned with our National Party values, they are National Party people, and within those groups there are specialists around policy so we are working at a lot of Maori policy so we are having a look at a lot of different things that are going to enable more capablity and engagement for our people within National," Mr Korako says.
National has three MPs with whakapapa Maori in its first 10 – leader Simon Bridges, deputy Paula Bennett and Botany MP Jami-Lee Ross.
