Maori business groups launch new venture to improve health through nutrition
A group of Māori Entrepreneurs have collaborated with scientists, investors, marketers and horticulturalists to establish a new venture, NUKU ki te PukuTM, focusing on the development of innovative nutrition solutions supported by health claims for the world.
NUKU ki te PukuTM Establishment Board Member Wayne Mulligan says the group has been formed to create new nutrition that is healthy and generates high value.
“It is our mission to make a difference in sustainably meeting the growing global needs for nutrition and health,” Mulligan says.
International research shows that the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes in Asia, both in their home countries and abroad, is extremely high and is continuing to rise rapidly.
Mulligan says they are now endeavouring to commence positioning in the Asian market where there are over half a billion people in the early stages of developing Type 2 diabetes.
“The objective of NUKU ki te PukuTM is to take advantage of the growing demand for nutrition with health claims in order to reduce the prevalence of avoidable illness.”
NUKU ki te PukuTM will also be taking a delegation to Singapore next month to network with members who invest in NUKU ki te PukuTM. The group will also participate in a half day workshop focused on Māori and new nutrition from Aotearoa.
NUKU ki te PukuTM will be launched at Te Wharewaka o Pōneke in Wellington at 6pm tonight.
