Fix in for Mr Fixit
Employment Minister Willie Jackson says the departure of Steven Joyce to the ranks of the unemployed is a sign of panic within National.
The man touted by the national Government as its Mr Fixit and minister for everything announced yesterday he was stepping down.
Mr Jackson says the former radio entrepreneur clearly had his eyes on retaining the finance portfolio, which he looked set to lose under new leader Simom Bridges.
"There's a bit of panic going on. Bill English was given the message in no uncertain terms and now Steven Joyce has been given the message. You can see these younger ones like (Simon) Bridges and others in the National Party want their opportunity to have their crack. This is a change happening in the National Party," he says.
Mr Jackson expects other senior National MPs will leave in the coming months.
